I am pleased to extend a warm welcome to the Mehta Family School of Sustainability at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore. Our School is founded on the belief that sustainability is not just a discipline—it is a way of rethinking development, technology, and society for a resilient and inclusive future.

As the world confronts complex and interconnected challenges—ranging from climate change and resource scarcity to environmental justice and energy transitions—the need for integrative, evidence-based, and impact-driven solutions has never been greater. At the Mehta Family School of Sustainability, we are committed to nurturing leaders and researchers who can bridge science, policy, and society to drive sustainable transformation.

Our academic and research programs are built around four foundational pillars:

• Water and Climate Studies: Exploring hydrological systems, climate adaptation strategies, and nature-based solutions.
• Environmental Economics and Environmental Law: Bridging economic analysis and legal frameworks to address sustainability challenges, support policy design, and promote environmental justice.
• Energy Systems and Battery Technology: Advancing clean energy technologies, storage solutions, and sustainable energy infrastructure.
• Sustainable Livelihoods and Ecosystem Governance: Integrating ecological knowledge with socio-economic realities for inclusive development.

Through our interdisciplinary approach, we offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs that empower students with the analytical tools, field-based exposure, and critical thinking needed to become effective agents of change. We also engage actively with government, industry, NGOs, and international partners to co-create knowledge and drive real-world impact.

As we grow, our upcoming state-of-the-art infrastructure will serve as a hub for collaborative research, innovation, and community engagement in sustainability science and practice.
